The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority has tapped The Weitz Co. to build the Terminal C multi-modal connector pedestrian bridge and rental car lobby at the Orlando International Airport, according to a press release. The design-build project will cost about $113 million.
The project entails construction of a 450-foot-long elevated pedestrian walkway and an adjacent rental car lobby area that will connect the new Terminal C with the existing rail and ground transportation facility. It’s one of many upgrades at Florida’s busiest airport included in its multiyear Capital Improvement Program.
When complete, the project will bring new elevators, escalators, stairs and four moving walkways, and will provide travelers convenient access to Terminal C, the Train Station and the Terminal Link people mover, according to the release. It will also include rental car counters and queuing areas, multi-use information displays and interior landscaping.
Construction will begin later this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
The Des Moines, Iowa-based contractor’s design team includes Rhodes + Brito Architects, Ramski Interior Design, TLC Engineering, Base Consultants and Avcon — all headquartered in Orlando, Florida.
