Shelby’s Trio honored with architecture award, featured in Design Solutions magazine

CLARKSVILLE, TN – Shelby’s Trio, a new restaurant and lounge venue in downtown Clarksville, has received an Award of Excellence by the National Architectural Woodwork Institute and has been published in its Summer quarterly journal.

The Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) sponsors a widely respected Award of Excellence Program distinguishing the finest custom architectural woodwork projects in the country by acknowledging the efforts of architects, design professionals and woodworking manufacturers responsible for those projects. Award winners are published in “Design Solutions,” a quarterly journal of the AWI.

Shelby’s Trio, conceived and developed by Joe and Cathi Maynard as three separate customer experiences (restaurant/hospitality) within one overall building, ties all three venues together within an overall compatible architectural vocabulary. The lower level “Joe’s Garage,” an automotive themed restaurant founded by the family’s love of racing and Shelby Mustangs, is the driving force for the project.

The interior design process was a very intense and positive team effort between the owners (the Maynards), the architects (Lyle Cook Martin Architects – Clarksville), the contractor (B.R. Miller & Co. – Clarksville) and the woodworking contractor (Craftpoint Concepts – Ephrata, PA).

Following a lifelong dream of the late Cathi Maynard, Brad Martin and Tracy Miller of Lyle Cook Martin Architects approached this design experience not as another project, but as a true architectural expression through exterior and interior detailing. The resulting design fulfilled that dream and exposed the community to innovative design concepts reminiscent of larger cities, enhancing the downtown renaissance currently gaining great momentum.

Cathi Maynard lived with muscular dystrophy for over 35 years. Cathi was able to see and experience the opening of the restaurant in February of this year. Sadly, she passed away a short four months later. This award is dedicated to the memory and vision of Cathi.

Other AWI Award of Excellence recipients include an impressive list of projects ranging from The David Geffen Philharmonic Hall (NYC) to the renovation of New York’s Historic Wall Street Trinity Church. Achieving this level of Award is a great accomplishment and speaks to the unique collaboration between all Shelby’s Trio team members.
