A SOLENT University student has secured work experience with a leading interior design company after winning a competition run by a local housebuilder.

Jenna Kronholm, 21, from Tunbridge Wells was among the final-year students on the university’s three-year Interior Design Decoration course to enter her project for the eighth annual Linden Homes Award.

The entries were judged by Lucinda Box, marketing manager at Linden Homes, which is building at Whiteley Meadows in Whiteley, near Southampton.

Lucinda chose Jenna’s project, which was inspired by her childhood in Africa, as the overall winner.

Jenna will now have the opportunity to undertake a week’s work experience with Clayton & Company, which designs the interiors of Linden Homes’ show homes across the country, with the housebuilder covering the cost of travel to and from the company’s Bristol office.

Lucinda said: “It was a real pleasure to be back at Solent University for the Linden Homes Award. The students produced some fantastic work, and it was great to speak to them and witness their enthusiasm for interior design.

“This is the eighth year of the Linden Homes Award, and we feel it is an extremely beneficial project for the students who take part. Not only does it give them wider recognition for the creative work they have produced as part of their course, but it also gives the winner an amazing opportunity to gain real-world experience within the industry.

“I’d like to congratulate Jenna on her winning entry and wish her all the best for her placement with Clayton & Company this summer.”

The students were given the creative freedom to design an interior design project of their choosing, building on their years of learning.

Lydia Southwell, course leader for the Interior Design and Interior Design Decoration courses, said: “We are extremely grateful for Linden Homes’ continued support and appreciate Lucinda’s time and commitment.

“It is exciting for the students to have their work viewed by industry and helps to define the standard of work for future students to achieve. For Jenna to be offered work experience with Clayton & Company is a super introduction into the real world of interior design.”
