Jenna Lyons Has Viral Interior Design Hack for Quiet Luxury Look

by

Jenna Lyons is proving to be a jack of all trades.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo Sundays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Though the Real Housewives of New York City Season 14 cast member is known for her time as the president and executive creative director of J.Crew Group, she has proven that her sense of taste goes beyond the closet. In fact, Ideal Home recently reported that searches for brushed brass have noticeably increased in recent months, a trend that’s been attributed to Jenna opening the doors to her home.

Jenna Lyons’ Brushed Brass Interior Design Hack

The style guru shared her surprisingly cheap home decor tip in a July interview with Vogue, revealing that the key to getting that vintage look on faucets and other metals is ocean water.

“I took a spray bottle with salt water — like, literally salt water from the ocean — and sprayed it so it got that soft patina,” she revealed.

Jenna noted that epsom salt and water won’t work quite the same, so be sure to stock up on ocean water during your next trip to the beach as this hack is a tried and true method.

It even works on unlacquered brass, as made evident by her kitchen backsplash and sink, which had to be made with “special machinery,” according to one of her Instagram posts. Jenna said that she waited years to be able to build this brass backsplash, adding, “It was the first thing I insisted on, and a non negotiable.”

If you haven’t noticed by now, Jenna loves a vintage, somewhat tarnished look to her metals. There is unlaqcuered brass in almost every room of her SoHo apartment, which is the epitome of the “quiet luxury.”

She even declared her love for unlacquered brass in a lengthy Instagram post, calling it the “president of the best things in the world society that I decided to create for 2024.”

“She’s all at once shiny, strong, anti microbial, honest, and reliable; what more could you ask for. Chrome and nickel show every spot while unlacquered brass gently patinas and never lets you down,” she wrote, adding that she’s the “self-elected president of the fan club.”

Unlacquered brass is the focal point of her kitchen, which isn’t the norm in most apartments. But, as Jenna put it, “I know my apartment is not normal. I’m not normal either.”

Jenna wholeheartedly encourages people to lean into their eccentricities, whether it’s in their style or personality. Her biggest fashion tip is to wear what feels right for you instead of following current trends.

And while the other Housewives don’t necessarily love her penchant for a button-up shirt, it’s what she feels best in.

“We just are all so different. I dress down and I kind of got called out for it because I’m wearing jeans and T-shirts and denim shirts half the time,” Jenna shared. “We went on a trip and I brought like seven white shirts and they were like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

To each their own!
