1. Upgrade Your Tile and Fixtures
Very basic tile and shower fixtures can oftentimes lack personality or appear a bit sterile. Designer Hayley Buchanan Daines did this renovation herself, after the previous shower needed replacement parts, and the manufacturer was no longer in business. Her walk-in shower had a major glow-up, thanks to the addition of white subway tile, upgraded gold fixtures and a beautiful blue and white decorative tile for the floor.
The white brightens up the entire corner and plays well off of the gold accents, while the decorative tile gives the shower a gorgeous pop of color. No longer just an ordinary corner of a bathroom, this makeover gives the entire room a much needed lift.
2. Decide on a Color Palette
Choosing a color palette is key for keeping everything in your bathroom cohesive and streamlined. In this example, black and white really shines. The matte black shower head shown here goes perfectly with the black grout and white chevron tile.
The black detailing on the glass panels, as well as the black and white floor tiles tie everything together, while the plant adds texture and a bit of color to the space.

The addition of a shower niche is an added bonus, perfect for storing all the essentials. Showering in this bathroom is now a fun and unique experience, especially compared to what it was before.
4. Remember You Can Never Go Wrong With White
If like this walk-in shower makeover, you are starting from scratch and find yourself with decision paralysis, know that you can’t go wrong with a white bathroom and chrome fixtures. The simplicity of this walk-in shower is very chic, as white is a classic choice. It’s clean, bright and inviting—all things you want for your bathroom and shower.
Designer Penelope Pannell was inspired to do this walk-in shower renovation herself, after finding a sink unit in the bargain bin at IKEA. She chose a gray vanity ands a gray framed mirror to complement the silver shower head. The cool color palette is warmed up by the wooden stool and nearby storage baskets. She also opted to remove the sliding glass doors the previous walk-in shower had and instead chose large glass panels, which give the shower a sleek and polished look.

5. Embrace the Space You Have
If you’re tight on square footage and need to come up with a small bathroom design, don’t be afraid to think outside the box and embrace the space you have. This walk-in shower was originally very tiny, as it hugged up against the vertical wall, avoiding the slanted ceiling.
Designer Zoe Silva made the decision to expand the shower, so it went all the way across the room. The once empty floor space turned into a shower bench, and the slanted ceiling is embraced instead of avoided. There is now ample room to shower, store soap and hair care products and even sit.
6. Double Up
There’s nothing more luxurious than a double shower, especially if you have the square footage and the budget. This transformation by Casa Fox Studio started with gutting the tub and getting rid of the heavy, brown tile. Even with a window, the shower felt dark and confined. After removing the tub and adding white tile and gold fixtures, the space feels softer, lighter and larger.
Double showers offer convenience for couples and added space for anyone with mobility challenges. Seated showers are no problem with two shower heads, and filling your space up with your favorite soaps and products will create a lush at-home spa experience.

7. Create Calm With Blues and Greens
Color plays a huge role in setting the mood and tone in a room, and blue and green are versatile and classic shades to work with, especially in a bathroom. Upgrading a basic walk-in shower with blue green tile is a lovely way to create more calm and relaxation, as shown here.
Designer Britt White rearranged the original bathroom layout to create more room for the walk-in shower bycompletely removing the sink and putting it on the other side of the room. This created a beautiful open space for the rest of the shower, essentially doubling the square footage of the shower itself. A single pane of glass keeps the bathroom open and inviting, while placing tile throughout the entire space creates an inviting, tranquil atmosphere.
