Christmas is just NINE WEEKS away, and the focal point of any festive celebration is that all-important tree.
PerthNow has put together a guide on creating the perfect tree with the help of Balsam Hill Interior design expert, Jen Derry (and NO it is not too early).
Colour & trends for 2023
According to Jen, gold colour palettes will be adorning many trees in 2023.

Pair the gold with ivory and clear glass accents to create a visual spectacle that exudes sophistication.
“You can also add an ethereal touch by integrating crystal drops and garlands, introducing luminosity to your festive decorations,” Jen said.
Jen’s tips for achieving a celebrity Christmas look
1. Select the perfect tree and foliage for the space.
2. Choose a theme that ties everything together, whether it’s based on a colour palette, ornament collection, or personal interest. Create a mood board to visualise your vision and select the decorations accordingly. Begin with classic ornaments in timeless colours like silver, gold, white, red, and green.

3. Fluff and shape your tree meticulously to achieve a lush and lifelike appearance.
4. Check your lights (if your tree isn’t pre-lit). To decorate like a pro, view your tree in sections and style each section from top to bottom, ensuring a balanced and layered look.
5. Get strategic with ornaments. Start with larger ones tucked deeper within the foliage for depth. Smaller ornaments can be placed on the tips of branches to create a draping effect. Consider clustering ornaments of the same style or mixing various designs for a playful contrast.
6. Add texture. Fill sparse areas with Christmas tree ribbons, layering different styles and widths for a textured look. Christmas tree picks and sprays bring variety and texture to your tree.

7. Add a topper. Finish your tree with a personalised topper or a custom creation that adds personality.

8. Put on a skirt. A Christmas tree skirt or decorative tree collar that matches your theme will create the perfect backdrop for your holiday presents.

How to maximise that festive impact
Jen said she is seeing many people put up multiple trees in various rooms around their home to feel the Christmas spirit throughout the whole house.
“We’re also seeing themed trees, with meticulously curated ornaments serving as a focal point for other decorations,” she said.
“Outside of trees, you can maximise the impact of Christmas decorations at home by dimming the lighting and introducing lamps to create that warm, welcoming and snug atmosphere.”

Jen suggested getting the kids involved by giving them a smaller Christmas tree for their bedroom.
“Whether it’s in the theme of their favourite reindeer, Christmas movie, or even their favourite superhero, you can truly make Christmas decorations unique and personal,” she said.
