UNDATED (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – Walmart has announced huge changes to its stores’ interior design to attract new customers.
It comes as inflation continues to impact shopping habits across the country. The company unveiled updates at more than 100 stores Monday. Those changes included pharmacies near the front of the store with private screening rooms.
The re-imagined stores showcased home goods, such as bedding products in touch-and-feel, end-cap displays to get shoppers to interact with more products.
According to CNN, the chain will add new “dollar shops” inside the remodeled stores, with seasonal products, as well as a “Grab & Go” section for wraps, cold drinks and sandwiches. Per the network, while Walmart has been able to remain competitive with Target and other rivals when it comes to food sales, it has fallen behind in home goods and electronics sales, which generate much larger profits.
The company said it hoped for customers to shop at Walmart for things beyond things like groceries and everyday necessities. Walmart’s revamp of just 117 stores in 30 states came at a cost of half-a-billion dollars.
It was part of a $9 billion investment to update more than 1,400 of Walmart’s 4,500 plus stores over the next two years.
