Poway interior design and retail store Elizabeth Louise Interiors is celebrating its one-year anniversary by raising money for Poway-based What You Deserve.
The fundraiser for the nonprofit, which seeks to provide mental health support to moms who are struggling, will be an opportunity for guests to mingle and shop while having cocktails at the store from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. Local businesses have donated items that will be raffled at the event.
The shop at 14168 Poway Road, Suite 201, which was converted from a former saddle and tack store, sells home decor, furniture, accessories, lighting, upholstery and artwork created by local artists. Betti also operates her design firm at the shop.
“I wanted a store that had a sense of community where people could come in and have a sense of home,” said Betti, who moved to Poway seven years ago.
Since Betti’s motto is “design a life you love,” she said she connected with the ideals of fellow Poway Chamber of Commerce member and Poway resident Lindsey King, who founded What You Deserve in 2021 when she saw a need to help moms during the COVID pandemic.
Most moms generally carry a mental load, King said. Along with working and raising children their minds are always tuned to day-to-day tasks and everyday celebrations such as birthday parties.
The hair stylist said she has struggled herself even though she has a supportive husband, Joey King, who helps raise their 4-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter.
“Through my nonprofit I’m trying to raise funds to hire mental health specialists to hold group therapy sessions for moms that need it on matters that mean the most — working through parenting issues, childhood trauma, moms with special needs,” King said. “It may not be one-on-one but it would be accessible and moms can get help.”

King said she is not a licensed therapist so she doesn’t lead therapy sessions, but she does offer a support group for moms of all types — including foster moms and adopted moms.
The free meetings are held from 6 to 8 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Poway Adult School, 13626 Twin Peaks Road. During the first hour, King said attendees are welcome to share their experiences or just listen, then they spend the next hour talking openly about their concerns.
“Eventually I would love to have a space to have workshops or opportunities to learn practical life skills, to help with financial literacy, creating a budget, resume writing, having access to job fairs to help women returning to work,” King said. “That’s a long-term goal.”
