WSP USA President and CEO Lou Cornell will retire next year, the Montreal-based company announced last week. Cornell joined WSP in 2019, after five years as senior executive for the Buildings and Infrastructure Americas group for Dallas-based contractor Jacobs.

Before that time, he was senior vice president, California District Director of Operations for AECOM, also headquartered in Dallas.

He has over 30 years of extensive and progressive design and management experience in the engineering, environmental, architectural and construction industry according to his LinkedIn account. He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Cornell will continue to oversee the U.S. business until his retirement in 2024 and the company has initiated a search for his replacement.

WSP’s earnings, revenue and backlog all climbed in the third quarter of this year, according to its earnings report released last week. Revenues grew across all reportable segments and the global construction and engineering giant is benefitting from various government stimulus efforts, according to CEO Alexandre L’Heureux.

In addition, the company recently received several accolades: It was included in Fortune magazine’s Change the World 2023 list, Time magazine’s list of the World’s Best Companies for 2023 and lead Engineering News-Record’s Top 225 International Design Firms for the third year in a row.
