This 2,100 square-feet four-bedroom home, with its uninterrupted view of the sea, is located on the 49th floor of a highrise in a busy neighbourhood in South Mumbai, and belongs to Sabina Chopra, fashion consultant and Next Gen Mentor at Lakmé India Fashion Week and Anil Chopra, former CEO Lakme Lever. Also comprising a den, the home creates pockets of pause and stillness for each member of the family, headlined by the omnipresence of colour.

“Sabina, who usually dresses in black, white, and occasionally blue, became open to the idea of accepting colours. We did a complete 360—from first planning everything to be natural and raw in form and appearance, to eventual bold colour blocking,” explains interior designer Huzefa Rangwala, co-founder and director, MuseLAB. – Aditi Shah-Bhimjyani

A Soothing Madhi Home Of Pop Art Flair
A few kilometres from Dhampur, Uttar Pradesh lies the quaint little village of Madhi, photographer Atul Pratap Chauhan’s hometown. When he approached his friend Sanjyt Syngh, principal designer at his eponymous firm for the design of this second home, he framed it as a challenge—“I want a Sanjyt Syngh-esque space but can you do it without the colour?” A man of manifold talents—perpetually rising to challenges being one of those—Sanjyt heartily obliged. The result? A space awash in minimalist charm, a picture-perfect getaway from the bustle of Atul’s fast-paced lifestyle.

“When it comes to good design, I believe in designing every corner, every detail. Everything has a story to tell, be it a cushion, a chair, an ensemble or even a tattoo,” reveals Sanjyt. This certainly bore fruit when handpicking the art, objects and accessories that pepper Atul’s home, suffusing it with personality at every turn. “I wanted it muted but powerful,” muses Sanjyt. Local artisans at ease with organic materials were employed for the wooden sculptures, the original character of the material adding to the rustic allure. Photography by Atul himself as well as Sanjyt adorns the walls, bringing in a fresh pop appeal. – Alisha Lad

This Hyderabad Villa Becomes An Art-Filled Sanctuary
The early aughts were a special time for AD100 architect Kanan Modi. In 2006, she and her husband became first-time homeowners. Three years later, she sowed the seeds for her architecture and interior design studio. And sometime in the years before and after, she became a mother not once but twice. Those experiences were special all on their own, of course, but what made them even sweeter was that they were all in one way threaded together. The couple’s first home in Hyderabad, after all, had not just been their first joint piece of real estate, but also Modi’s first project as an independent designer, and, as if that in and of itself wasn’t sentimental enough, had been the first nuclear home her boys had ever known.
