A historic mansion designed by famed architect Jules Jacques Benedict has hit the market for $2.8 million.

Urling House, built in 1921 and located at 4050 Montview Boulevard in Denver, Colorado, is one of the most prestigious mansions in the area thanks to its grand design and exquisite detailing. Originally a wedding gift from Benedict to his daughter Madeleine, the 5,506 square-foot home has been featured in several books about Denver architecture and the Park Hill neighborhood.

“The Urling House by renowned architect Jules Jacques Benedict, built in 1921, has withstood the test of time. With many of the original features still intact, including hand-tooled arched doors, ornate ironwork and intricate moldings, the estate has proven to be both exquisite and timeless,” said Taylor Heslop, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, via email. “Located in Denver’s historic Park Hill neighborhood, the property has passed through many prominent figures in Denver history from oil tycoons and cattle ranchers to doctors and attorneys. Several of Benedict’s projects are featured in local and national registries of historical places, making this a rare opportunity to own a piece of architectural significance.”

The exterior design draws the eye as soon as you step in front of the home: crimson herringbone brick, a green tiled roof and an elegant arched green doorway that has previously been recognized as “one of the most beautiful doorways in Denver,” as per the property listing.

Inside, the fine design details continue. Throughout the main level of the six bedroom, six bathroom home, arched doorways and windows, high beamed ceilings and white oak floors help to open up the space give a light and airy feel. Additionally, a glass-paneled atrium—a signature design feature in Benedict’s architectural work—floods the staircase with tons of natural light.

Adding texture and character, the main living and family room boasts intricate carved plaster framing the windows, original Van Briggle tiles lining the floors and a striking honeycomb pattern on the ceiling. Plush fabrics and jewel-toned furniture bring a richness to the space, complementing the otherwise neutral color palette.

The modern kitchen is designed by William Ohs and features bright white cabinets, glass paneled cupboards and appliances in an unexpected location; the oven, broiler and microwave are installed into the kitchen’s side wall. With a monochromatic design, the downstairs powder room is the picture of elegance, complete with black and white tiles and finished with brass-hued furnishings.

Upstairs, each of the spacious six bedrooms feature their own unique design; from sage green walls and bold artwork to distinctive light fixtures and a built-in fireplace. Two private patios provide ample outdoor space for entertaining, and the former “staff quarters” has been transformed into an additional sitting room for relaxing. A partial third floor offers a large space for creative use, whether it’s a gym, home office or play room.

Urling House features a rich history and unique design elements that mark it one of the most prominent properties in the area, and its close proximity to Denver’s prime locations makes it a great option for all of the family—Park Hill Library, Denver Zoo and City Park lake are all within easy reach.

4050 Montview Boulevard is held by Taylor Heslop of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty. The property is available to view now.
