Cheltenham interior designer reaches grand final of BBC series

by

An interior designer from Cheltenham has made it through to the final of BBC One’s popular Interior Design Masters series.

Hosted by Chatty Man and Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK judge Alan Carr and judged by magazine editor and stylist, Michelle Ogundehin, the eight-part series pits 10 amateur interior designers against each other to redesign everything from shops and restaurants to salons each week, battling it out for a chance to design a homeware collection with La Redoute.

Cheltenham’s very own 25-year-old Matt Smith-Wood is one of the final two contenstants left in the competition, after impressing judges in the semi-finals — with his final challenge airing on Tuesday 30 April 2024 at 8pm.

Matt grew up with a passion for art and design — partly due to his father’s job of restoring Japanese antiques — and gained an extended diploma in Art and Design at Stroud College before going on to study Interior Architecture and Design at Coventry University.

Since then, he’s moved back to his home town and has been working as a bathroom designer for a local company.

With just two contestants left, Matt faces off against Roisin in the grand finale, as the pair head to the magnificent Blenheim Palace to redesign the holiday lodges in its grounds.

Taking inspiration from the picturesque Cotswold surroundings, they’ll be expected to show Michelle and guest judge Nathan Adler everything they’ve learned over the last eight weeks, before one of them is crowned this season’s Interior Design Master, winning a major collaboration contract with La Redoute.

The final of Interior Design Masters is on BBC One at 8pm on Tuesday 30 April 2024; and if you’ve missed anything, previous episodes are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
