Whether you just bought a home or are looking to upgrade your current space, getting advice from an interior designer can help. We asked three local designers to answer some questions that can help you design a perfect space.
Q: What type of interior home design do you specialize in?
“We work on everything from custom new builds, historic renovations, and everything in between,” said Lauren Waldorf Mendenhall, owner and principal of Lauren Waldorf Interiors in North Charleston. “Our style can be described as Modern plus Soulful, meaning we’re always working to create a dynamic, balanced aesthetic of old and new.”
“I don’t specialize in a type of home design, but I do specialize in clients,” said Alexandre Fleuren, owner and lead designer of Alexandre Fleuren Interiors in Mount Pleasant. “My portfolio is an assortment of so many different clients and their passions, their lifestyles, and their loves. People don’t seek me out because they like my style. They seek me out to capture theirs. Residential design should not just be a reflection of the client; it should be an extension of them.”
“As an interior designer, I do all styles of homes, but my job is to deliver to the client their vision using space management and usability within the confines of good taste,” said Gigi Chapman, founder of deGuide Interiors in Mount Pleasant. “In my almost forty years of interior design, I have done everything from plantations and modern homes to beach houses. Each is a great experience. Because it’s the creation that is my passion.”
In other words, your passions and lifestyle should guide how you decorate your space.
Q: What’s trending in home and decor these days?
Waldorf Mendenhall: “We’re seeing a lot of saturated colors, reds, berry tones, and oxblood. We’re also seeing a reimagining of some nostalgic 90s vibes that are being articulated in a simplified, updated way.”
