Founder of interior design studio Appreciation Project, Natasha Lyon’s Margate home is where every room tells a story. From the dried flower wreath on the front door – a nod to her first step into interiors selling dried flowers during lockdown – to the enduring armchairs in the living room, faithful companions since her and husband John’s first flat 20 years ago, each space is filled with character. Scattered throughout the house are trinkets and treasures personal to her: family heirlooms such as her grandmother’s mirror in the family room, prints and fabrics collected from her travels as a handbag designer, books reflecting a lifetime of interests from art to ballet, and now playful artworks celebrating their seaside location.
Around this she has crafted a palette of pure joy with no colour being off limits, from the deep inky blue bedroom to the vibrant green kitchen. Most daring of all is her rich red lounge which serves as an energising space for a coffee in the morning and a restful sanctuary at night.
Natasha has created a family home that authentically mirrors its vibrant and artistic surroundings. ‘I still get a thrill as I move around the house, catching glimpses of the rooms through the doorways – whether it’s stepping into my office on the top floor and seeing the bold yellow and green of my children’s rooms, or the multicoloured tiles of our shower room as I go up the stairs.’
