High-end furniture retailer Ethan Allen is relocating its Watchung design center this fall.
When the Danbury, Conn.-based brand moves from 1541 Route 22 to Greenbrook Commons, it also plans to debut a refreshed store concept.
Ethan Allen is taking over a former Chase Bank pad site at the Urban Edge Properties-owned shopping center, also located along Route 22. At Greenbrook Commons, it will open a 4,321-square-foot showroom.
In the new store, customers will be able to meet with Ethan Allen’s professional interior designers or request an at-home consultation to receive even more personalized recommendations.
They’ll also be able to view furniture and décor in different styles and then select their custom pieces. Ethan Allen’s North American workshops handcraft most items.
In addition to advising customers on purchases, designers can:
- Create 3D digital room layouts;
- Design window treatments;
- Recommend custom artwork and linens;
- And more.
Classic design, modern perspective
Ethan Allen Chairman, President and CEO Farooq Kathwari commented, “Our vision of classic design from a modern perspective, our blend of personal service and design technology, and our 92-year reputation for handcrafted quality offers clients an exceptional value. We look forward to strengthening our position as the interior design destination in each of these communities.”

Over the past two years, the company has rolled out a new retail concept designed to enrich customer experience. Along with Watchung, Ethan Allen also recently announced plans to refresh its stores in Albuquerque as well as reopened its Louisville location.
Within New Jersey, Ethan Allen’s retail footprint includes Whippany, Somerville, Paramus, Marlton, Englishtown and Princeton.
Justin Lustig, vice president of leasing for Urban Edge Properties, commented on the upcoming Greenbrook Commons store. “This is the first Ethan Allen store in the Urban Edge portfolio, and we are excited to welcome them to this prime location. We look forward to fostering a strong relationship and exploring future opportunities at our shopping centers. The store’s relocation from a nearby site will attract its loyal customer base to our center, helping to enhance our merchandising mix,” he said.
