AN INTERIOR designer has revealed the six homeware trends and styles he can’t stand.
Loren Kreiss, an Interior and Furniture Designer from the US, explained that white kitchen cabinets make you basic, and leather sofas are ‘plain ugly’.

Posting on social media, the CEO and Creative Director of Kreiss, a luxury furniture company, left people totally divided with his thoughts.
Loren shared his clip with the caption ‘This week’s Designer Diss track is a smackdown for the ages’ and said: “Here are six things I would never use as an interior designer.”
Loren first of all shared his thoughts on white kitchen cabinets, as he explained: “If I suggested them to a client, they’d punch me in the face. And I deserve it.
“They’re super popular, but they’re sterile, lifeless, and basic.”

Not only this, but he also can’t stand leather sofas, as he added: “People buy them because they think they’re indestructible, but they’re slippery, sticky, and most of the time just plain ugly.
“They’re hotter than hell in the sun and colder than your ex in the winter.”
Loren also isn’t on board with “dupes and knockoffs”, as he claimed: “They’re the terrible wedding cover band of our industry.
“Why would you want something fake that steals someone else’s idea?”
If your ceiling is white, prepare to be attacked, as Loren got candid on “white ceilings and trims”.
He continued: “Tell me you’re not an interior designer without telling me you’re not an interior designer. Your grandma called. She wants her paint job back.”

In addition to this, this interior pro also isn’t a fan of grey and white decor, as he snapped: “Grey and stark white anything.
“They’re the dreary and uninviting colours of prisons, pigeons, hospitals, and the loony bin.”
Trends interior designers hate
IF you want to ensure that your home looks glam, here are the trends that interior designers can’t stand.
NO YELLOW: According to Bilal Rehman, yellow paint in a bedroom is a big no no.
He said: “If you want everyone to know you’re a horse girl then yellow is perfect for you.”
SIGN OFF: Kelly Hoppen shared her honest thoughts on Live, Love, Laugh signs.
The interior pro explained: “Another gripe of mine – Live, Laugh, Love – those kinds of wooden things that sit on book shelves and floating shelves, that’s so 10, 12, 15 years ago.”
NO GREY YAY: Julie Provenzano explained that grey interiors have been overdone.
She stressed: “We took a good thing and we overdid it to the point that it now feels copy, paste, basic.”
Finally, the content creator explained why he has a distaste for “water sucking grass lawns”, as he concluded: “They’re about as responsible as letting TikTok babysit your kids.
“Plus they’ll just make your yard look like a putting green for miniature golf.”
Big divide
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @lorenkreiss, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and has since amassed one million views.

But social media users were left totally divided by Loren’s claims – whilst some were keen to agree, others couldn’t wait to disagree more.
One user beamed: “Correct!”
A second chimed in: “I agree with EVERYTHING on this.”
Whilst someone else penned: “I actually agree with this entire list for the first time Loren. Not for me and wouldn’t suggest them.”

However, at the same time, one person said: “Leather is and always has been elite.”
Another added: “Hi, white cabinet lover here. They are timeless, pop them with backslash, counters and decor.”
Loren’s ‘rules’ for a classy home
IF you want your home to look fabulous, you’ll need to follow Loren’s advice…
Loren confirmed that ivory is the most ‘underrated colour’ and is incredibly ‘fresh’, ‘clean’, ‘warm’ and ‘inviting’.
He also suggested that having dimmers and decorative switches and plugs are ‘essential’ for making everything in your home look better.
The interior pro swore by heated floors, and claimed that having this will feel ‘renewing’, and ‘luxurious’.
Finally, he revealed the trick that ‘every top designer uses’ , as he swore by ‘coverlets’, also known as ‘throws’, which will instantly add style to any space.
Meanwhile, a third commented: “No way!!! Love leather, white ceilings, and trim. No shame from me.”

Fabulous spoke to Loren in further detail about all things interior – as he revealed the trends he foresees for Autumn 2024 and the style he hates the most.

When it comes to an upcoming trend for next season, Loren told Fabulous: “Generally I’m seeing a pivot to fresh warm neutral colours and soothing natural materials. Grey is finished.”
As well as this, the interior whizz shared his thoughts on the trend he always suggests to his clients, as he beamed: “I recommend warm minimalism because it’s a classic backdrop that can be evolved and personalised to suit anyone’s taste.
“Natural, neutral, comfortable and functional choices should be the core tenants of any design.”
He also shared the trend he doesn’t want to see in 2025, as he explained: “I’d really love to see Cottage Core go away forever. It’s fussy and contrived.”
