Since its beginnings in the early 1950s — when rows of empty warehouses proved the ideal spaces for showroom owners to display their wares — the Dallas Design District has been known for its to-the-trade-only stores. If you wanted to bring some of the high-end furnishings and decor home, you needed an interior designer working for you. But as the neighborhood has grown to include acclaimed art galleries, luxury apartments and some of the best eateries in the city, more showrooms are opening their doors to the public. That includes the Design District’s newest arrivals: Cosentino City Showroom, Avenue Road and Hilltop Granite.

Cosentino, a leading source for sustainable architectural surfaces (bathroom or kitchen countertops, for example), opens May 8. The 6,200-square-foot warehouse and showroom is the first Cosentino location in Texas. While it’s not a traditional retail space, the showroom will allow the public and designers alike to explore the line’s surface brands through a variety of features: a creative studio that displays surface samples alongside textiles, tiles, cabinetry and fixtures; a spa-inspired concept for bath and wellness design; and immersive displays and interactive tools, including “digital slabs,” mockups and pivoting walls to improve the selection experience.
Customers can order some products, like sinks, directly from the showroom. In other cases, the showroom manager can help homeowners make a material selection and then connect them to a local fabricator for purchase and installation. Cosentino City Showroom is located at 1135 Dragon St. and will be open Monday through Friday.
